2 Years After the Storm

When most of our church building was destroyed by a tornado on 10-20-19, I would never have dreamed that two years later we would still be awaiting the rebuilding’s completion.

Supply delays, material delays, design delays, planning and zoning delays, weather delays . . . so many delays!

But, even in the aftermath of COVID-19 shutdowns and other events which have affected the entire globe over the past couple of years, we are hopeful that completion is near!

We have framing, walls, rough-in plumbing and electric, bricks, trusses, and finally a roof. Will it be completed by the end of the year? I don’t know. But it’s closer than it has ever been!

This past Tuesday, 12 members of our prayer team and pastoral staff “prayed through” the new facility, and we declared God’s vision and purpose for our new place of worship, both audibly and by writing Scriptures on the walls before the drywall is installed. It felt really good. It felt like we were making progress, spiritually and physically.

There are so many things we don't understand and cannot comprehend. So many “why?" questions. Life is filled with them. 2020 and 2021 were filled with them. But God’s Word assures us that He knows, and He cares. Because we are His children who love Him and are called by Him, He is working all these things together for our good, according to Romans 8:28. That’s so hard to believe sometimes, but I can testify that this is the truth! I was reminded recently, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9).

Meanwhile, we are planning another trip to Mexico and another street outreach, as well as the presentation of an original Christmas production written by Chris Aguilar, our media and youth pastor. We will experience the Holidays with our families.

And then, some time in the first quarter of 2022, we will celebrate our grand-reopening, God willing. There will be community events and times of praise to God. We are praying and dreaming about how things will be once we get moved back in, but until then we keep moving forward with vision and determination to be the Lighthouse God wants us to be, in this city and around the world.

Thanks for sharing the journey with us!
